Very variable in markings and colour.

The less common Dark Marbled Carpet (BF1762) cannot be distinguished from Common Marbled carpet by forewing markings

The post-median cross-line visible on the underside of the hindwing of Common Marbled Carpet is shown and is rounded.

On the Dark Marbled Carpet it would be sharply pointed towards the outside of the wing .(See UKmoths)

Only common in the South of England and only found where Wild Clematis grows - not known to use garden varieties.

Flying : Mainly June, July, August

Only common in the South and East of England

1795X  Autumn moths   Epirrita agg.

Four species, too alike to separate from photos. Slightly different flight periods: Pale November Moth - mainly October;
November Moth : October, November; Autumnal Moth : October, November; Small Autumnal Moth : August, September, October

Without scientific evidence these need to be recorded as Epirrita agg.

1799  Winter moth  Operophtera brumata

Flying : November, December, January

The less common Northern Winter Moth (14-18mm) has almost white hindwings  and is slightly larger than Winter Moth (13-16mm).

Winter moths can be differentiated from Autumn Moths by wing shape - Autumn moths have a rounder ‘shoulder’ at the wing base and the tip of the forewing is more pointed.
